Klezmer on Ice @ Art Shanty Projects

  • Lake Harriet / Bdé Umáŋ 4135 West Lake Harriet Parkway Minneapolis, MN, 55409 United States (map)

Bundle up and join the all-ages party celebrating the fusion of Jewish culture and Minnesota wintertime traditions! Named “the most iconic Minnesota art event “ by MPR, Art Shanty Projects is a spectacular gathering like no other - bringing community together to embrace the challenges and opportunities of winter through immersive, radical, participatory art. On ice! We’re excited to return as one of the featured live performers for the third straight year!

Dance in the line (our dance leaders will show you how), sing yay-day-day, clap, and listen to live music from Di Bayke Klezmer Band, or just shmooze; we welcome all forms of participation. Together we’ll celebrate the fusion of diasporic Jewish culture and Minnesota wintertime traditions.

Schedule:
1-1:40 & 3-3:40 PM: Di Bayke Klezmer Band at Town Square Performance Stage (map)

Location:

Art Shanty Projects takes place on the ice of Lake Harriet/Bdé Umáŋ. The entrance is located near 4135 West Lake Harriet Parkway in Minneapolis. Plan extra time for finding parking on a nearby street and getting yourself out onto the ice, and dress appropriately. Consult the ASP website to learn more about parking and visitor info.

Di Bayke Klezmer Band is composed of teaching artists from the Longfellow Village Band and presented by Folk Will Save Us. Di Bayke (meaning "Tall tale" in Yiddish) plays the dance music of Yiddish and Eastern European music traditions, bringing experiences in Yiddish and Klezmer music to new audiences around the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
